Take the Tour-de-Herdy by Bus and Train 🐑🚌
Fancy a day out in the Lake District with a little less driving and a lot more Herdy? Well, grab your travel pass, hop aboard and get ready to rock around the flock!
We’ve teamed up with Stagecoach to make it easier than ever to follow in the hoofprints of one very adventurous Herdy fan and visit all five of our Lake District shops in one day using public transport.
From Kendal to Keswick… and everywhere in between
The idea came from our lovely customer Marion Jeffery, who recently completed her very own Tour-de-Herdy by bike, pedalling her way to all five Herdy shops in Kendal, Keswick, Grasmere, Ambleside and Bowness.
It got us thinking: if Marion can do it on two wheels, could you do it by bus and train?
Absolutely.
With a little help from Stagecoach, we’ve put together a suggested route that starts at Kendal Station and takes you on a full day of Herdy-hopping through some of the Lake District’s most famous towns, finishing at Windermere Station.
And the best bit? You can leave the car at home. 🚆🐑
Your Tour-de-Herdy itinerary
The current summer timetable gives you plenty of time to explore each Herdy shop, grab a bite to eat and take in the views.
Kendal → Keswick → Grasmere → Ambleside → Bowness → Windermere
*This time operates Mon-Fri until 18th September. After this date, catch the 12:30 PM from Keswick to Grasmere. Arriving at 12:58 PM. Please note, this is only a guide itinerary. You can visit the shops in any order.
There are buses, trains, mountains, lakes and five Herdy shops involved. What more could you want from a day out?

More ways to explore the Lake District
There’s never been a better time to explore Cumbria without the car.
The new Cumbria Travel Pass offers one-day car-free travel on Northern, TransPennine and Avanti trains, Stagecoach buses and Windermere Cruises, giving visitors even more ways to get out and about.
And during August, children can travel free on Stagecoach bus routes in Cumbria, making a day of exploring the flock a little kinder to the family purse.

The Tour-de-Herdy route uses the current summer Stagecoach timetable, which runs until 1 November. Some services change after 18 September, so please check the latest timetable before travelling.
